Pronounced [Ret - troh - prud] noun.
A discipline instrument used in schools in the first half of the 19th century, sometimes referred to as the electric fish very effective but banned in 1948. The retroprud delivered a relatively high-voltage low-current electric shock by poking the pupil. The disappearance of this effective device lead to an up turn in school rioting.
The great scientist, Albert Einstein, was a firm believer in the use of the retroprud (his "electric shock" hair style supports this). There was nothing like it for promoting mental alertness in the laboritory, and a careful application of the retroprud into a cup of cold, neglected coffee, could rejuvinate it no end by exciting the electrons and causing happy molecules ("almost nuclear fusion in a cup!" Einstein would quip on such occasions).

Peter, I am feeling much better. Not blogging on the Spanish Studio as not making anything. I have interviewed an intern for November/December who looks like she is going to be a good worker so it will be action stations when I get back on the 25th.
ReplyDeleteSitting here in the shed in Petworth surrounded by the most beautiful trees and garden, it is a very good recovery location, and the weather has been good too!
