Ionitis

Pronounced [Ion – i – tis] noun.

Extreme pain in the arms brought about by too much spirited ironing.

This condition is also known as repetitive strain injury (RSI), Neglected Laundry Trauma (NLT), Iron Overuse Syndrome (IOS), and Broken Facial Vein disorder (BFVD). All are common ailments found in people who insist on wearing linen or hemp clothing.

The treatment includes resting the upper body in an elasticated bandage and a weekly evaluation of the damage. It usually takes three weeks to recover to full mobility. The solution is to wear solely dry cleaned clothing where a full laundry service is provided including steam pressing.

  1. Do you know... I think we've stumbled upon the solution to the riddle of the mummy... Egyptian ones that is! All that bandaging was an attempt, all be it extreme, to cure the dreaded RSI. (The tarry stuff that was also used, was probably a form of medicated rubbing oil, for easing aches and pains.) That line of yours about resting the upper body in an elasticated bandage was the key to solving this riddle. Oh Kitty and Jessica, this Verification Vocabulary blog may well unlock so many of life's puzzles. A Nobel Award should be in easy reach!

Quite why the Egyptians took the RSI cure to such extremes is probably another area to research. Maybe Whole Of Body RSI (WOBRSI) was common then!

    PS borbilli for this comment!

  4. I think I have had WOBRSI several times, if only I had known at the time people would have taken me so much more seriously.
