Vismeret

Pronounced [Viss-mer-ette] noun.

The name given to a person who pretends to be someone with noble blood, when either they are not of noble blood, or they are of a lower ranking within the ranks of nobilty to what they are claiming to be. Examples of Vismeret's are Prince John (1166 – 1216) in the film Robin Hood, and the Count Monte Cristo.

  1. I do like Vismeret, although I wonder if appearing to be of noble blood has the attraction that it once did?

I wonder what the word is when the reverse situation is true? When a person of noble blood elects to hide it and become "one of the lads (or lassies!). Would it be a case of postvismeretism? or could one behave Disvismeretibly? (ibly...ably... not sure!).

By-the-way... I loved the Hempion, which looks rather pressurised from the photo, although it must be well sealed up as there is no smoke issuing from around the doors!

The Atifoo is a classic! That poor owl can only provoke laughter with an expression like that, and I am sure he is very serious.

PS WV this time is "skmedib"

  2. Dear Peter, I believe there is a lack of Vismeret's in the world these days, and this is probably due to the fact that it is not as attractive being of noble blood as it once was. You are indeed correct in your thinking!

I love Disvismeretibly!! Bit of a mouth full, but great...:P
